The Prix La Barka (Gr2), the last prep race ahead of the Grande Course de Haies d’Auteuil (Gr1), still features 19 entries including five foreign raiders. Paul
Nicholls has his first ever entry at Auteuil with Celestial Halo (Galileo), who was second in the World Hurdle (Gr1) at Cheltenham. Irish master trainer Willie Mullins has three entries  including Thousand Stars (Grey Risk),
dual winner of the Grande Course de Haies, Zaidpour (Red Ransom) and So Young (Lavirco). Tom George has entered Saindor (Saint des Saints) while the French contingent is headed by Nikita du Berlais (Poliglote), who is making her reappearance in this Gr2.

The Prix Questarabad (Gr3), the last prep race ahead of the Grande Course de Haies d’été des 4ans (Gr1), features such names as the Le Grand Lucé (Dream Well), who recently won the Prix Amadou (Gr2). Prix Cambacérès (Gr1) winner, Extrême Cara (Hurricane Cat) has not been seen since her success last November. Willie Mullins still has three entries in this Prix Questarabad: Diakali (Sinndar), winner of the Champion Four Year Old Hurdle (Gr1) at Punchestown, Blood Cotil, who was second in that race, and Viconte du Noyer (Martaline).

JUMPING CHAMPIONS ALL SET FOR AUTEUIL

Thursday saw the probable runner stage for Sunday’s Gras Savoye Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris (Gr1). No change was made to the list of horses and 16 remain in the running for the French Gold Cup. Jean-Paul Gallorini still has five horses lined up or this race including Dragon Mask (Turgeon), Shannon Rock (Turgeon), second in this race last year, Quarouso (Lavirco), who was third in the Prix Ingré (Gr3) behind Bel la Vie (Lavirco) and Shannon Rock, Kotkieglote (Poliglote), fourth in the Prix William Head (L) and Puerto Chico (Saint des Saints). The stars Lagunak (Mansonnien), Polar Rochelais (Le Balafré) and Farlow des Mottes (Maresca Sorrento) also remain on the list as does three time winner Mid Dancer (Midyan). It was also announced on Thursday that Mid Dancer has changed ownership and will now run in the colours of MD Bloodstock Ltd, those of Michel Delauzun, owner of Prix de la Forêt (Gr1) 2011 third Surfrider (Dansili). The official runners and riders will be declared on Friday morning.

PRIX GEORGES TRABAUD (Listed) - MARSEILLE-BORELY, Tuesday 14 May

Winner of the Prix Via Milano (B), Le Ring (Slickly) took the Prix Georges Trabaud (L), the 3yo Derby at Marseille. Le Ring benefited from a good run behind the leader Falco Junior (Falco) and did not hesitate once a gap opened in front of him early in the straight.
This was his first Listed success but the third win in this race in four years for owner Jean-Claude Séroul. Second place was taken by Face Surface (Turtle Bowl), who got the better of Far Affield (Rail Link) in the final stages.
Le Ring was bred by Jean-Claude Seroul, and his dam, Joha (Johann Quatz), ran in the same colours.
Joha won this Prix Georges Trabaud (L) in 2000. At stud she has already produced Listed placed Mariage Tardif (Slickly).

PRIX VOLTERRA (Listed) - CHANTILLY, Tuesday

On her turf debut, and her first attempt at this level, Table Ronde (Astronomer
Royal) ran away with the Prix Volterra (L). She took the lead in a matter of strides in the straight and demonstrated an impressive turn of foot. Her stable companion Blast Echo (Falco) went a few lengths clear and tried to go from pillar to post but she lacked the stamina to hold off Table Ronde. Jean-Claude Rouget explained: "She improves with each run. It is for horses like her, with turns of foot like she has, that we do this job. I don’t regret not running in the "Poule", as she was not yet ready to take on the best. You can’t rush horses. She didn’t run as a two-year-old as she had some small problems. She will run in the Prix de Sandringham if she comes out of this race well. She has not had a tough race but we do have to travel a lot to race in Paris. She is not tough enough for a race like the Coronation Stakes yet. Blast Echo does not stay a mile but will be very good over 1,400m."
Suspicieuse (Elusive City) took second place between the two Jean-Claude
Rouget runners. Table Ronde is out of Tanzania (Alzao), who already produced Del Mar Oaks and John C. Mabee Handicap (Grs1) winner Amorama (Sri Pekan), and Listed placed Milwaukee (Desert King). Tanzania is a full-sister to champion Tryptich (Riverman) and Barger (Riverman).

PRIX DE GUICHE GR3 - CHANTILLY, Tuesday

Just three weeks ahead of the Prix du Jockey-Club (Gr1), the Prix de Guiche
(Gr3) did not reveal a hot favourite for the French Derby. The winner, Dalwari (More Than Ready) is no doubt a good horse but his limits are still unknown. A lot was expected of Triple Threat (Monsun), after his impressive win at Longchamp in the Prix La Force (Gr3). However he remained in his stall after it opened and when he finally jumped out he was quite a few lengths behind
the rest of the field. The pace set by the leader was quite slow so he was able to make up the ground quickly. He finished an eventual third but his performance in the straight was not impressive enough to be a convincing possible Jockey Club winner.
After sitting behind Spiritjim (Galileo), Dalwari came upsides him on the bend and then kicked clear after a long acceleration. He did it well, summed up Jean-Claude Rouget. This run will do him a lot of good and he will be on form for the big day. Obviously the Prix du Jockey-Club is a difficult race but he will be one of the favourites. Mshawish (Medaglia d’Oro) was back in second place,
without ever threatening the winner but having held off Triple Threat. Dalwari is by the American stallion More than Ready and is out of Dalmiya (Kalanisi) who is a daughter of Listed winner and Group 3 placed Daltawa (Miswaki). Daltawa
is also the dam of Dalakhani (Darshaan), who achieved the "Arc" & "Jockey-Club" (Grs1) double, and seven time Group 1 winner Daylami (Doyoun)!

PRIX TEXANITA (Listed) - MAISONS-LAFFITTE, Monday 13 May

Just like when he won the "Cabourg" (Gr3) as a two-year-old, Mazameer(Green Desert) was the pillar to post winner of the Prix Texanita (L). Wearing blinkers for the first time, he proved himself to be courageous in the finish.
This Listed was created just this year and is reserved for three-year-olds. Mazammer ran alright on his return in the Prix Djebel (Gr3) before disappointing in the Prix Servanne (L), against his elders.
Winning trainer Freddy Head, said afterwards: I am pleased with him and the
blinkers worked well today. In the future he will run in sprint races, they are his
forte. There is another sprint race reserved for three-year-olds, the Prix Marchand d’Or, which could be his next start. We needed a sprint race for three-year-olds so it was good that this Prix Texanita was created. Second placed Wedge Trust (Zamindar) ran better than on her return at Fontainebleau. Via Chope (Indian Rocket), who was having his first start for Cédric Boutin, ran one of the best races of his career to finish third.
Mazameer was bought as a foal at Newmarket, in December 2010, for 105,000
Gns. His dam, Straight Miss (In the Wings), never ran, but is a sister of Grand Critérium (Gr1) winner Naaqoos (Oasis Dream) and Prix La Force (Gr3) winner Barastraight (Barathea).

A BIG SUNDAY FOR ARQANA

The day after their record breaking Breeze Up Sale, Arqana had an
exceptional Sunday thanks to Poules d’Essai winners Style Vendôme (Anabaa) and Flotilla (Mizzen Mast), both of whom were purchased at their Yearling Sales in August 2011. Other graduates of this sale include Park Reel (Country Reel), beaten by a nose in the Prix Hocquart-China Horse Club (Gr2), as well as Dastarhon (Dansili), second in the Poule d’Essai des Poulains. Catcall (One Cool Cat), winner of the Prix de Saint-Georges (Gr3), was bought as a yearling in December 2010. The different prices of these horses demonstrate that it is possible to purchase Group, and even Classic grade, horses in Deauville at smaller budgets than one might expect. Flotilla was knocked down for €120,000, Dastarhon for €100,000, Style Vendôme €92,000 and Park Reel was sold for €40,000. Catcall only cost €5,000!
This is not the first Poules double for Arqana. Silver Frost (Verglas), who passed through the ring in August, and Elusive Wave (Elusive City), who was bought at the Arc Sale, achieved the same feat in 2009 but they were not graduates of the same sale.

PRIX HOCQUART CHINA HORSE CLUB GR2

It was unclear on the line at to whether the leader Park Reel (Country Reel) or Tableaux (Giant's Causeway) had got their head in front but in the end victory
went to Tableaux. The Prix Noailles (Gr2) winner recorded the second success of his career. Both wins have come at Group level in trial races for the Prix du Jockey Club (Gr1).
Since the beginning of the season, André Fabre has set French racing alight with his three-year-olds by winning all of the Group races that lead to the Prix du Jockey Club: The Prix la Force (Gr3) with Triple Threat (Monsun), who
is due to run in the Prix de Guiche (Gr3) on Tuesday, the Prix Greffulhe (Gr2) with Ocovango (Monsun), and the Prix Noailles and now the Prix Hocquart with Tableaux. The only name missing from this list is that of Sky Hunter (Motivator) who is due to run in a "B" on Monday having not been declared for this Prix Hocquart. With three second places from three starts in 2013, Park Reel had never been so close to succes as on this occasion. Trainer Elie Lellouche said afterwards that he could go for the Grand Prix de Paris (Gr1) instead of the Prix du Jockey Club, which is likely to have a large number of runners.
Aidan O'Brien’s Festive Cheer, who had not been seen on the track since winning his maiden in August 2012, took third place here but made a very good impression. Tableaux is out of Golden Antigua (Hansel), third in the Endeavour
Stakes (Gr3), winner of nine races and the dam of dual Gr3 winner Giant Gizmo (Giant’s Causeway).

POULE D’ESSAI DES POULICHES GR1 - Sunday 12 May

The Poule d’Essai des Pouliches (Gr1) was won by the best filly in the field when the Mikel Delzangles trained Flotilla (Mizzen Mast) took home the First French Classic of the year.

She was having her first run of the year and managed to break the record for the race, which until now had been held by Zarkava (Zamindar). Winning jockey Christophe Lemaire commented: It is never easy to make reappearance in a Gr1. I have to congratulate her trainer, he gave the filly time when she needed it and brought her back slowly. Her pacemaker Sage Melody (Sageburg) took the lead early on and enabled Flotilla to have a perfect run in behind Esotérique (Danehill Dancer). Between the
300 and 200m mark Esotérique managed to kick clear of Flotilla but the winner proved that she is a true champion when digging deep to go after Esotérique and beat her easily. Tasaday (Nayef) took third place four lengths behind
with the Richard Hannon trained Zurigha (Cape Cross) back in fourth.
Flotilla is the first filly to achieve the "Breeders’ Cup- Poule" double and has now proved that she is the best French three-year-old filly over a mile. This was also a first Classic success for owner Sheikh Mohammed Al Thani just a week after the disappointment of What a Name (Mr Greeley) in the 1,000
Guineas (Gr1) at Newmarket. The dam of Flotilla, Louvain, was twice placed at Listed level for Richard Gibson, before being exported to the USA where she won a Gr3 at Hollywood Park.

POULE D’ESSAI DES POULAINS GR1 - Sunday 12 May

Nicolas Clément recorded his first ever Classic success when Style Vendôme (Anabaa) won the Poule d’Essai des Poulains (Gr1). It was an even more emotional success for the trainer as Style Vendôme runs in the colours of
Count André de Ganay, one of his first owners.
A winner at two, unbeaten at three and able to handle all types of surfaces and styles of racing: Style Vendôme is the complete package. In winning on Sunday, he achieved the Prix Djebel-Poule d’Essai double which had not been done
since Kingmambo in 1993. He should now go for either the St James’s Palace Stakes (Gr1) at Royal Ascot or the Prix du Jockey-Club.

Thanks to his draw in stall 3 Style Vendôme had a more fluid run than some of his rivals, such as Intello (Galileo), even if he had to take the lead a little earlier than normal.
“I was afraid he would stop once he hit the front” said Nicolas Clément, “but he went right to the line and was very brave”. Style Vendôme held off the attacks of Dastarhon (Dansili) and Intello, who encountered all of the problems of being drawn 17. Gale Force Ten (Oasis Dream) had a straightforward run and the Middle Park Stakes (Gr1) third finished in fourth place ahead of Havana Gold.
Morandi (Holy Roman Emperor) ran a good race and his trainer Jean-Claude Rouget had said ahead of the race that he has the Prix du Jockey-Club in mind for his charge.
Bred by Guy Pariente, Style Vendôme is the nephew of Maroon Machine (Muhtathir), second in the Critérium du Fonds Européen de l’Élevage (L). His dam, Place Vendôme (Dr Fong), was second in the Prix Ronde de Nuit (L) and third in the Prix Sigy (L). Place Vendôme was bought for €28.000 by Agence FIPS (Hervé Bunel) in October 2005 in Deauville.

Thanks to a final burst of speed, Catcall (One Cool Cat) caught his sprinter rivals in the Prix de Saint- Georges (Gr3). This was his first attempt at Group level and at the same time he provided young trainer Philippe Sogorb, who set up training just last year, with his first Group success. Philippe Sogorb detailed two possible options for his charge, either a run in the Prix du Gros- Chêne (Gr2), or to give the horse a break and supplement him for the King’s Stand Stakes (Gr1) at Royal Ascot over 1,000m.
Catcall was bought as a yearling, in December 2010, by owner Gérard Samama. He is out of Jurata (Polish Precedent), who previously produced Listed placed Plein d’Estime (Mark of Esteem).

The 2013 edition of the Breeze Up Sale produced excellent results.
The Saint?Cloud Breeze up Sale which was held on the eve of first French Classic rendez?vous of the year posted very positive figures with a particularly dynamic start to the sale.
Almost 87% of horses changed hands (including private sales) for an average sale price of €66,772 which represents an increase of 18% on last year.
The total turnover reached €6,403,500, a figure equivalent to 2012 in spite of 35 fewer horses in the sale, while 17 lots made more than €100,000 compared to 11 the previous year.
This year, the Saint?Cloud Breeze Up was marked the presence of three two year olds by Sea The Stars, the only offspring by the six time Group 1 winner to have been sold in a Breeze Up in Europe. These horses were very well received, in particular lot 13 for whom the bidding went to €520,000, a record for an ARQANA Breeze Up sale. Named Salamargo, this son of the dual Listed winner Navajo Moon offered by The Channel Consignment was most popular, particularly with Hugo Merry but also with Nicolas de Watrigant, who was representing Cheikh Joaan Al Thani, there in person on Saturday at Saint?Cloud. It was eventually the trainer Marco Botti who had the last word, buying the good looking colt for Cheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, already an owner in South Africa with Mike de Kock.
The second colt by Sea The Stars to go through the ring was lot 48, consigned by Ecurie Prévost?Baratte. This two?year?old, who is none other than a brother to Prix Jean?Luc Lagardère (Gr.1) winner Naaqoos, was knocked down for €165,000 to Jehan Bertran de Balanda, who was acting on behalf of English owner Alan Potts.
Nicolas de Watrigant, who ended the day as leading buyer thanks to the purchase of 7 lots for a total €760.000€, forked out €230.000 for lot 14, a colt from the second crop of Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Raven’s Pass. This half brother to Mast Track, who won the Hollywood Gold Cup Stakes (Gr.1), was consigned just as the top price was, by The Channel Consignment who had a
great sale, selling 11 lots for €1,372,000. The tandem consisting of Alban Chevalier du Fau and Jamie Railton also consigned lot 1, a daughter of New Approach, young sire in the limelight thanks to the unbeaten Dawn Approach, brilliant winner of the Newmarket 2000 Guineas last week. Out of a sister to Group 1 placed Charming Prince, this filly was bought for €175,000 by Richard Brown (Blandford Bloodstock) and will go into training with William Haggas, having been in the object of a bitter duel between the Blandford Bloodstock and Jean?Marie Callier and Chantilly Bloodstock.
Roger Marley (Church Farm Stables) achieved a very successful pinhooking coup thanks to lot 46, a colt by Green Tune bought for €24,000 at the ARQANA October Yearling Sale and sold for €155,000 this afternoon at Saint?Cloud. It was Stephen Hillen, acting on behalf of British owners Matt and Lauren Morgan, who bought this son of a half sister to the excellent Silver Pond, who will now go into training with Kevin Ryan.
Furthermore, two particularly well bred fillies left their mark on the sale the ring on this Saturday and both found buyers for €140,000. The first was lot 22 (consigned by Kilminfoyle House Stud), a daughter of Galileo and the Sprint Cup (Gr.1) winner Pipalong, already the dam of Walk On Bye, who won the Anglesey Stakes (Gr.3) and finished third in the Phoenix Stakes (Gr.1). Irish bloodstock agent Hubie de Burgh bought her for an Australian owner breeder who intends to race her in Europe before sending her back to Australia where she will join his own broodmare band. The second filly sold for €140,000 was lot 36, a daughter of the exciting young stallion Lawman and Group 3 winner Secret Melody who numbers the excellent Pearl Flute among her progeny. Bought at the October yearling sale, the last named won the Prix des Chênes (Gr.3) last year and will run in the Poule d’Essai des Poulains (Gr.1) on Sunday. This filly consigned by Haras du Saubouas was eventually knocked down to Oliver Saint Lawrence, acting on behalf of Gaybrook Stud, and will go into training with Marcus Tregoning. At the end of the day, ARQANA chairman Eric Hoyeau commented: “The demand was very sustained at the top end of the market and all the major players had travelled to Saint?Cloud and got involved in some nice bidding wars. The same applies to the middle market which is noted for its very European flavour. As such, a large proportion of the horses bought are likely to stay in training in France, a country which benefits from prizemoney which offers a better possibility of return on investment. In this sense, the Breeze Up Jackpot brings an added incentive thanks to a €200,000 package entirely financed by ARQANA.

Six year old Toutancarmont (Al Namix) won the Anjou-Loire Challenge (L), the world's longest steeplechase in a pulsating finish. Isabelle Pacault's grey got his head in front right at the very end ahead of Phakos (Robin des Champs), and Maljimar (Un Desperado), who ran well despite pulling hard and making plenty of mistakes.A visibly moved Isabelle Pacault said afterwards: «It was a great race, they did not go too fast and all the horses finished in one piece. I will now leave him for a winter campaign in Pau.» Toutancarmont now lies at the head of the challenge having already won the Grand Cross de Fontainebleau for owners the Papot family.

Two days ahead of the Arqana Breeze Up Sale, Eric Hoyeau and Olivier Delloye spoke about their hopes for this year’s edition of the sale and their desire to develop racehorse ownership in France through the creation of the Breeze Up Jackpot and the Arqana Racing Club.

JDG. – How is the 2013 edition of this sale looking so far?
Eric Hoyeau & Olivier Delloye. – We have made some modifications to the sale. The catalogue has been reduced in size by about 30 lots. The second change is the time of the canters which have been moved to 11am on Friday, to allow more time for veterinary and physical exams of the horses. The quality of the sale has improved with an increase in the percentage of two-year-olds out of black type mares or mares that have produced black type horses. We are also the only Breeze Up Sale in Europe this year with a two-year-old by Sea The Stars on offer.
- Was the Breeze Up Jackpot created to encourage racehorse ownership in France?
Exactly, we discovered that the two-year-old sales often serve as a first step for new owners. Testostérone, for example, was the first very good filly for Ecurie La Boétie. The Breeze Up Jackpot was created to encourage French clients and to make the French racing system even more attractive to foreign owners. The bonus fund of €200,000 is entirely financed by Arqana.

-A few days ago you announced the creation of Arqana Racing Club -What is the idea behind this concept?
Simply because racing professionals complain about the lack of new owners in France and this remains one of the few major racing nations where syndicates are not yet widespread. Our aim is to make being an owner simpler
and also to educate new owners about racing.

Penny’s Picnic (Kheleyf) is also being prepared for the Poule d’Essai at Mont-de-Marsan, where he is trained by Didier Guillemin. Co-owner Thierry Delègue updated us on the latest news of the horse who was third in the Prix Djebel (Gr3): “The colt worked well on the grass last week and Didier Guillemin was pleased with him. He wasn't 100% fit on his reappearance in the Prix Djebel, as we gave him a break after seven runs as a two-year-old. We now, have to wait to see where we are drawn as we know that it is very important.”

SATISFACTORY GALLOP FOR FLOTILLA AHEAD OF THE POULE

On Monday morning, on Les Aigles gallops in Chantilly, the forthcoming Poules d’Essai contenders were put through their paces. Christophe Lemaire was present to ride work on Flotilla (Mizzen Mast). Thierry Delègue, Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Thani's equine consultant, commented: “The filly worked well. She had a nice action and moved well. She worked at Chantilly Racecourse last week. She should be ready for the Poule d’Essai, even if it will be her first run of the year. She did not have any problem in particular but we simply decided to give her a break after the Breeders’ Cup.”
Style Vendôme (Anabaa), in the hands of Thierry Thulliez, and Anodin (Anabaa), wearing blinkers and ridden by Olivier Peslier, also worked on Les Aigles on Monday morning.

The very impressive Valban (Poliglote) will not be going for a Group 1 this spring as his connections would prefer to give him more time and wait for the soft ground that he prefers in the autumn. Winning jockey Jonathan Plouganou timed it perfectly to win the Prix James Hennessy (L) as Valban stops once he hits the front.
In the past this race has been won by good horses including Long Run (Cadoudal). Valban is now unbeaten in seven starts. Third in the Prix Duc d’Anjou (Gr3), Marcilhac (Smadoun) made a mistake at the last hurdle in this
race but still finished second ahead of La Garde Royale (Kapgarde), who was keen in running.
Valban is the first foal out of the talented AQPS flat mare, Paloma de Saisy (Network), who won five consecutive race for Alain Couétil including the Finale du Challenge de l’Ouest des AQPS at Nantes.

DEATH OF EPALO

The 14 year old Epalo (Lando), who stood at Haras de la Rivière, passed
away on Friday after a bout of colic. The German bred won at the highest
level on three continents, including in the Singapore International Cup (Gr1).
He is also the brother of Elopa (Tiger Hill), winner of the Prix Corrida (Gr2) and Gr1 placed. He sired the stayer Usuelo and Lovely Kiss.

CHRISTOPHE SOUMILLON BACK ON ORFEVRE

It was confirmed on Saturday that Christophe Soumillon will once again ride Orfevre (Stay Gold) this autumn at Longchamp. He will partner the Japanese champion in the Qatar Prix Foy (Gr2) followed by the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (Gr1). The duo won the first race last year before finishing second in the Arc.

Just like Kesampour (King’s Best) last year, Ocovango (Monsun) was unbeaten before taking his chance in the Prix Greffulhe (Gr2).
This attempt over 2,000m at Saint-Cloud was meant as a test to help connections decide whether to take their chance at Epsom in the Derby. For this reason, Pierre-Charles Boudot had the instructions to give the horse a true race. He jumped out well and took the lead early on. In the straight Bravodino (Dynaformer) tried to launch an attack at the 300m mark but all he
did was push Ocovango even more.
Ted Voute, manager to Prince Faisal, explained: "We wanted him to have a true race as he has never had to battle before and we also wanted to see if he could stay a longer trip. Epsom remains a possibility, but maybe a little
less than before the race."
Bravodino is also entered in the Epsom Derby, the Prix du Jockey-Club and the Irish Derby. But no quick decision will be made for him either as Alan Cooper explained: "He ran a very good race and looks like a good horse. We do not
know yet what the plan for him will be, either the Jockey Club or the Epsom Derby. We still have a month to decide."
Bred by Watership Down Stud, Ocovango is the Grandson of Crystal Music (Nureyev), winner of the Fillies’ Mile and second in the Coronation Stakes and Irish 1,000 Guineas (Grs1). The dam of Ocovango, Crystal Maze (Gone West)
remained unraced and Ocovango is her first foal. He was sold as a yearling at Arqana August Sales for €180,000.

Favourite for the Prix du Muguet (Gr2), Don Bosco (Barathea) had to fight hard in order to impose. As expected, Don Bosco led the race but Blue Soave (Soave), who also likes to lead, put pressure on him throughout the race. Don Bosco then had to hold off multiple attacks in the straight. Sarkiyla (Oasis Dream) sat on his heels throughout the race and almost got up to beat him on the line. This was a third Group success in under a year for Don Bosco. His trainer, David Smaga: “I hope you enjoyed that! He was beaten twice recently, but only at the end over 2,000m. He deserved to win here. He will now run over 1,850m! That will be in the Prix d’Ispahan (Gr1).
Sarkiyla ran very well on her return to France after a decent fourth place at Meydan in the Godolphin Mile (Gr2). Her trainer Alain de Royer Dupré said that from now on they will opt for races abroad. Sofast (Rock of Gibraltar) was wearing blinkers for the first time for his reappearance and came up the middle of the track alone to take third place.
Don Bosco was bought at the Arqana August Sale in 2008 for €55,000 by David Smaga. Perfidie (Monsun), the dam of Don Bosco, has since produced Listed winner Vodkato (High Yield).

THE POULE D’ESSAI ON THE PROGRAMME FOR INTELLO

Unbeaten in three starts, Intello (Galileo) has the Poule d’Essai des Poulains (Gr1 - 12 May) on his agenda. The Wertheimer & Frère representative was impressive on his reappearance in a Listed race at Newmarket and will now take his chance in Group 1 company in just over two weeks’ time. Pierre-Yves Bureau confirmed that “Anodin should also run in the Poule d’Essai. Intello and Anodin are both improving sorts and will both take part in the Poule d’Essai if everything goes to plan between now and then. The "Jockey Club" remains a possible objective for Intello. We will see what happens in the Poule d’Essai. He won well at Newmarket and has matured a lot.”

BREEZEUP OSARUS - A DYNAMIC SALE TAKES SHAPE

The figures logically improved for the second edition of the Osarus Breeze-Up at Pornichet. More importantly however were the positive reactions of the first time visitors to the sale who were pleased with both the organization of the catalogue and the professionalism of the event. Emmanuel Viaud, Osarus representative, commented: “In the current climate, it is difficult to attract new owners so we can only be pleased with our figures. The total, including private sales, was almost €800,000, which was as we expected. We cannot really compare the statistics to last year as the size of the catalogue has doubled. We are pleased to have attracted buyers such as Laurent Benoit, Louis Baudron and Richard Venn for the first time to Osarus. Nicolas Bertan de Balanda, who trains Group winning Osarus graduate Gemix, bought a filly by Green Tune for €38,000. Marc-Antoine Bergraght also bought 8 lots, some of which are for Tony Forde. There are still some things to work on but the sale is improving and its dynamic is starting to take shape.”
